Ping Yuen Public Housing Improvements

Chinatown CDC provides on-going technical assistance to the Ping Yuen Residents Improvement Association (PYRIA), one of the most established public housing tenant-led organizations in the City that was one of the five grassroots organizations that founded the Chinatown CDC.

Over the past 22 years, Chinatown CDC has assisted PYRIA in bringing about many improvements to the Ping Yuen public housing development. These improvements include:

  1. Self-sufficiency and Economic Development: Chinatown CDC assisted PYRIA to set up and run a laundromat that generates revenue for tenant activities; to create a computer training center; and to provide job referral and training, ESL class, and after school programs
  2. Physical Improvements: Chinatown CDC assisted in the renovations of three Ping Yuen playgrounds; creation of the Ping Yuen Mural on Stockton Street; refurbishing the community gardens; and painting of building interiors.
  3. Safety: Chinatown CDC helped PYRIA advocate to the San Francisco Housing Authority to put in gates and provide private security guards for the complex.

    Ongoing Projects:
Chinatown Alleyway Improvement Program | Adopt-An-Alleyway | Ping Yuen Residents Improvement Association | Community Tenants Association | Chinatown Transportation Research and Improvement Project | Chinatown Coalition for Better Housing | Committee for Better Parks and Recreation in Chinatown
