Since 1977, Chinatown CDC has participated in the production of over 2,000 units of low income housing. While providing needed services to our constituents in Chinatown/North Beach and the Tenderloin, we have also garnered numerous awards along the way. From residential hotels, such as the Clayton Hotel, to the model Tenderloin Family Housing, we seek to go beyond the "bricks and mortar" to actively create supportive residential communities. Our future challenge is to retain the housing gains of the last 20 years in the wake of federal cutbacks. To this end, Chinatown CDC also works with other non-profits to help them develop affordable housing for their constituents.

The future of Chinatown's housing can be found in the struggle of the past. Nearly 20 years after the eviction of low-income and elderly residents from the International Hotel, a fight that brought the community together to preserve housing, we are collaborating with Kearny Street Housing Corporation, the Catholic Archdiocese, St. Mary's Catholic Center and Manilatown Heritage Foundation to develop a housing and community complex on the infamous site.
