Japantown Community Planning Process
Phase I — March to September 1999
Chinatown CDC was the lead planning consultant, in partnership with Asian Neighborhood Design (A.N.D.), for the first phase of the Japantown Community Planning Process. During the first phase, we assisted the Japantown Planning, Preservation, & Development Task Force (JPPDTF) with its community needs assessment, defining its vision, community definition, goals and objectives. Through data gathering, hundreds of surveys, interviews and focus groups, we have documented the input on Japantown from the various segments of the community. We have compiled land use data, demographics and preliminary economic development analyses that will contribute to development of specific plans and strategies to preserve and revitalize Japantown. On behalf of the Task Force, we prepared the Japantown Communty Planning Process Status Report, July 26, 1999 and have produced a set of recommendations based on the first phase of the community's needs assessment process.
