Addressing Misinformation about CCDC

April 11, 2025

There is so much toxic misinformation on the internet that it generally seems futile to counter it. But recently there have been misleading stories circulating about our Executive Director Malcolm Yeung and others associated with Chinatown Community Development Center. We feel compelled to speak out and question the sources and origins of those stories.

The central negative narrative seems to be that Mr. Yeung and/or others are siphoning profits from the affordable housing that CCDC operates, allegations based upon two pending and unproven cases. The first is a lawsuit by a former employee and the other is an anonymous complaint recently filed with the City’s Ethics Department.

This is not the place to litigate the allegations raised in those complaints except to say that we expect to fully respond to those allegations when provided the opportunity to do so.

But we can say here that it is false to assert that our audit in any way substantiates that there is a potential for malfeasance within our operations. We encourage you to read our audit - it (and other corporate documents) are here on our website: https://www.chinatowncdc.org/about-us/documents to confirm that the audit finds no fault in the oversight of our operations. Instead the audit confirms that our operation conforms to typical best practices in affordable housing.

Chinatown Community Development Center’s accounting and oversight practices provide multiple safeguards to assure that our board members and staff do not engage in profiteering. And the audit further confirms that Chinatown CDC, not our Executive Director, controls our affiliated business entities.

Internet rumors or mere allegations won't dissuade us from our ongoing work serving over 5000 low-income residents of our properties and community, providing quality housing and related services, and advocating for their needs. While we always welcome feedback from the public we also believe that the way forward in these challenging times is for communities to come together in dialog, not to unfairly disparage our staff or members with unsubstantiated claims.
