Made in Chinatown – Celebrating a Quarter-Century of Youth Leadership and Advocacy

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of Youth Leadership and Advocacy at Chinatown CDC. Over the course of the year, Chinatown CDC will be celebrating our home-grown, youth-led, and youth-run achievements from the early creation of the Chinatown Alleyway Master Plan … Adopt An Alleyway (AAA) … Chinatown Alleyway Tours (CATS) … Campaign Academy … Youth for SRO (YSRO).

Various activities are being planned and will culminate in a Chinatown Block party in August 2016 to celebrate the achievements of all participants. There will be plenty to discover and much to enjoy in these videos, photos and stories dedicated to and produced by our youth participants. We invite our friends and alumni to come celebrate our past and to imagine our future together.

Judy Kuang, Senior Community Organizer, says “We want to use this 25th Anniversary Celebration to develop a strong base of supporters (young and old) who believe, as we do, in the power of youth. In spite of their economic or social standing, they can bring about social change and are often the most courageous and fearless members of our society. And, we’d like to raise $30,000 to help sustain and expand our youth leadership programs.”

Nearly 200 youth gathered in Portsmouth Square on April 2, 2016 for AAA’s annual Work-a-Thon. Supervisor Jane Kim and Executive Director Norman Fong (pictured in center) thanked all the volunteers for their effort and commitment in improving our community
