Reflecting on 2023, we express our gratitude for your support of Chinatown Community Development Center (Chinatown CDC). With community support, we achieved remarkable milestones in expanding our youth leadership programs, developing affordable housing and serving our community.
Here are highlights on how we have improved the quality of life of seniors and families living in single-room occupancy housing (SROs).
1005 Powell Street, San Francisco
Completing the Renovation of an SRO building. Chinatown CDC transformed 1005 Powell Street, a 64-unit SRO building that needed extensive repairs to safe homes for low-income seniors and families. “I feel really happy because it’s living in a new building” -Mr. Wong, resident at 1005 Powell Street. Picture the hope and happiness in the hearts of these residents as they returned to their beautifully refurbished homes after over a year of temporary relocation. This incredible accomplishment, made possible through private and public partnerships, demonstrates what we can achieve when the community is determined to create positive change.
Transitioning SRO Families to apartments. Chinatown CDC secured rental subsidies from the city to help over 200 SRO families transition to more spacious private apartments by Fiscal Year 2023-2024. This vital assistance provides these families with newfound opportunities and improved living conditions, setting them up for brighter futures. The joy of seeing these families excitedly move into their new homes before the holiday season is indescribable.
As we approach the year-end, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to Chinatown CDC before December 31st.
